  15. Short Description: Resource Optimization with Linear Programming
  16. Short Description: Linear Prog for Profit Maximization & Cost
  17.         Minimization

  19. Long Description: LPP is program to solve resource optimization 
  20. problems of small and medium sized business situations. It is 
  21. essentially Linear Programming algorithm that optimizes resource 
  22. usage based on a given set of constraints. It finds applications 
  23. in areas like: Least Cost Mix (example: Product Formulation and 
  24. Capacity Utilization Planning) and Profit Maximization (example: 
  25. Product Marketing Mix and Advertising Media Planning). It can 
  26. also be used in Transporation Logistics where goods are moved 
  27. from one warehouse to another. Extremely easy-to-use with Sample 
  28. Examples to get you started and an exhaustive on-line help.

  30. Here are a few interesting application areas where I used LP.
  31. 1. To arrive at a least cost mix of ingredients that produce 
  32. animal feed of given specifications in terms of nutritional and 
  33. fiber value. I did this for Lipton who are also into animals feeds 
  34. in India.
  35. 2. To determine what mix of available iron ores should be used to 
  36. produce FerroManganese (FeMn) of a given specification at the 
  37. lowest cost. I did for a large public sector smelting company.
  38. 3. To determine what mix of products to manufacture to maximize 
  39. profit, such that each product meets the minimum demand and does not 
  40. exceed the maximum estimated demand. I did this for a leading biscuit 
  41. and confectionery manufacturing company called Parle (spelt as Parley).
